Knowing him from high school, I was very impressed by his lifestyle and dedication to staying in top shape! Of course I had to feature him on this series and hopefully inspire you to stay active; this is what he had to say.

TIZI: How long have you been working out?

JS: I used to be the swimming captain back in high school where I was able to keep fit and would say I had a well toned body. Things got thick after high school when I left the country and was on and off with my workouts for a couple of years due to my busy schedule in university. Now that I have settled back in Kenya, I have been consistent and passionate about working out for the past 5 months.

TIZI: What made you start working out?

JS: One of the key reasons I started this adventure was to lead by example. I basically wanted to improve my way of living and hope to inspire people to do the same. I admit that I also want to look good.

TIZI: Can you please take me through your daily fitness routine on a weekday? And the weekend?

JS: During the week I cycle to the gym and workout from 6 -8 pm. On Saturdays, I do cardio in the morning by riding my bike for about an hour & Sunday is usually my rest day.

TIZI: Do you feel like it has made a difference in your life? If yes, how so?

JS: Yes it definitely has. Working out adds to my confidence levels in my everyday life, it has taught me how to set and achieve my goals and has helped my performance at work by reducing stress levels and being happier and more productive.

TIZI: Do you find it difficult to include your workout in your daily routine?

JS: Sometimes it can be hectic because I could be out on sites or meeting clients but I try and compensate on my next session by doing an extra hour if I miss out.

TIZI: What keeps you motivated?

JS: I believe that if you can create the body of your dreams, you have what it takes to create the life of your dreams as well.

TIZI: What can you tell someone who is starting their fitness journey?

JS: If you are trying to lose weight and are getting started with exercise for the first time, your main focus should be on your diet. A good diet plan will account for 80 -90 % of your body transformation. Pick a form of exercise you enjoy whether its yoga/ weight lifting/ biking/ hiking/ or going for a walk and do it often. When working out, find a friend who is trying to achieve the same goal. With a partner you get to motivate each other. Do it for yourself and be consistent.
